It seems clear to me that because we are such a car-dependent society, making cars happy is increasingly becoming imperative for everyone—Democrat or Republican. When it comes to happy cars, we have a political consensus.
Nationally, Democrats want to cut the gas tax and their silence is deafening when it comes to building a national train system. And increasingly, it is no longer just the environmentalists, liberals, or Democrats who are “no growth” NIMBYs (happy cars depend on very low residential/commercial densities). More and more, Republicans are joining the tree-huggers in becoming no growthers.
Because across the political spectrum, everyone agrees: There is nothing more important to our quality of life than free-flowing traffic…
